The ex-wife of boxer Dmitry Bivol wildly celebrated his defeat to Artur Beterbiev last weekend and declared ‘karma has reached the idiot’.
Bivol and Beterbiev met in a historic showdown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday night in a bout to crown the light-heavyweight division’s first undisputed champion in 22 years.
Beterbiev picked up a hugely controversial points win with Bivol’s promoter Eddie Hearn insisting the judge who awarded the fight 116-112 in Beterbiev’s favour ‘should never work in boxing again’.
The decision which handed Bivol the first defeat of his career caused uproar among boxing fans. But not everyone was quite as upset.
Ekaterina Bivol hosted a live stream during the tense moments the judges’ scores were read out on Saturday night and could not hide her delight as her ex-husband was declared the loser.
Smiling and clapping as Beterbiev was announced as the new undisputed world champion, she said ‘Artur, Artur, yes! God, God thank you. Artur, I congratulate you.
‘Because karma reached Bivol. F**k, for real, you deserved it, idiot.’
Dmitry and Ekaterina were married for more than a decade after tying the knot in October 2013 and have two sons together.
They announced an acrimonious breakup last year. Their split has been highly publicised with Ekaterina making allegations of emotional abuse and controlling behaviour during their marriage.
Ekaterina has also alleged on her social media channels that her former husband hit her and told her to get an abortion, also accusing him of failing to financially support their two children.
She has also revealed injuries and physical issues that have effected Bivol over the years, information that would no doubt be welcomed by his opponents in the ring.
‘I want to tell you everything I know: he has a stress fracture of a vertebra in his back, all his hands have been operated on and not just once, one elbow for sure, very sore knees, his left ear is constantly swelling,’ Ekaterina wrote.
‘It has been broken many times, and fluid has accumulated in his eye many times, sometimes he can’t see well. But the main thing is that he is a coward! We need your victory, Artur.’
